The Lysiak-Rudnytsky Ukrainian Studies Programme is a long-term programme to support projects in Ukrainian studies for research, educational, cultural institutions, and analytical centres abroad.
The Programme aims to
- deepen the knowledge and understanding of Ukraine and its cultural heritage across international audiences
- mobilize expert knowledge about Ukraine
- promote new research in the field of Ukrainian studies and increase the visibility of existing research
- strengthen intercultural and scholarly communication
- expand the use of digital technologies in humanities
In the long-term perspective, LRP aims to integrate knowledge on Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages, literature, history, political science, sociology, and other relevant fields into university curricula and extend its reach to experts, policymakers, and media around the world. LRP will also facilitate academic exchanges and contribute to increasing the number of publications in Ukrainian and Crimean studies.

- To provide continuous support for Ukrainian studies, the programme will hold three open calls this year.
Who can apply?
The programme is open to foreign universities, educational and cultural institutions, think tanks, and individual researchers. Co-financing of up to 30% of total project costs and collaboration with a Ukrainian partner institution will be considered advantageous.
Eligible Project Formats
- Develop and implement university courses (including MOOCs), with priority on undergraduate level and open/general courses;
- Organize research visits, field trips, and summer schools focusing Ukraine and, when circumstances allow, in Ukraine;
- Organize international and interdisciplinary scholarly conferences on Ukraine;
- Conduct and publish research on LRP priority topics for the given year/period;
- Translate specialized academic literature and archival materials from Ukrainian into other languages.
2025 Competition Priority Topics
- Decolonizing Knowledge about Ukraine — Rewriting Ukrainian culture and history from the perspective of decolonization and undoing epistemic biases in global scholarship about Ukraine;
- Ukraine and the World — Ukraine’s role in European and global cultures, history, and politics;
- Crimean Tatar studies;
- Intercultural Ukraine — History and culture of Ukraine’s diverse communities;
- Independent Ukraine — History of Ukraine since 1991;
- Resilient Ukraine — Russian war against Ukraine (2014 –) and resilience: social, cultural, security, political, environmental, and economical dimensions.
We strongly encourage applications in support of projects that engage with one or more topics from the above list, are interdisciplinary in nature, expand the field of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar Studies, and are designed to have an impact on the global community beyond the project lifespan.
Guidelines for Grant Budgeting
– costs of translation from Ukrainian into a foreign language;
– services for writing scientific, analytical or journalistic articles;
– services for communication support of the event in social and print media;
– costs for book design;
– costs for the services of an editor and/or proofreader of the text in a foreign language;
– costs for oral (simultaneous) translation into a foreign language; – costs for printing and distribution abroad;
– costs for organizing a conference, round table or public lecture;
– costs for paying for the services of invited lecturers;
– costs for the production and design of films and videos, animated films, photo advertising materials and computer graphics;
– services for the development, supply and testing of software;
Expenses that cannot be included in the estimate:
– fees, awards, royalties;
– license fees;
– expenses for preparing documents for the competition;
– expenses aimed at making a profit;
– accreditation, membership fees;
– payment for goods, works and services that were/are financed from other sources before or after signing the contract.
Application Deadlines
Applications not selected in the first and second rounds may be revised and resubmitted for later calls.

Please note that while the projects may be conducted in different languages, the application form must be completed and submitted in English.
